Human Influence
The human population has made a major impact on the red panda and influenced their 'at risk' status. The red panda is threatened by deforestation and other human activities. The effect that deforestation has on the red panda is that it eliminates sites and sources of food and isolates populations into small fragments seperated by harsh habitats (IUCN Red list of Threatened Species). As the human population in Asia continues to grow, more forests are going to be cut down in order to expand the land for the human population resulting in destroying the red pandas habitat. The six negative land managment practices that threaten the species survival are: cash cropping, fodder and firewood, timber, medicinal plants, and grazing. The other main human threat to red pandas is illegal hunting. Due to their furry red coat, they are often hunted and killed for their coats which trappers use to make hats, clothing, and rugs.
It is imporatant to save the red panda because they are an abassador for clean air and water for about 500 million people (Red Panda Network). The forests where the red panda lives is the lungs for South Asia. If these forests are destroyed then not only are the red pandas suffering, but also humans. It is imporatnt that these forests are intact and function properly so that humans, animals and plants can live a healthy life. However, it's not to late to act and make a difference. You can donate to many different fundraisers, such as The Red Panda Network, that help save the red pandas and protect their habitat. Also, more people are being educated on reasons for the decline of red pandas over the past year. The more education that people have about species at risk, the more support for conservation and protected region.

Fact: Red pandas spend most of its life in the trees. While on the ground they move slowly and carefully.
